The maverick filmmaker’s milestone evening saw Isha Koppikar and other industry names celebrate his enduring impact on cinema.

Ram Gopal Varma, known for redefining cinematic narratives, celebrated his birthday with great enthusiasm for the first time. The evening was not merely a celebration but a reflection of evolving cinema and creative collaborations, with conversations centred around the future of storytelling and innovation in filmmaking. Having mentored several filmmakers over the years, Varma continues to influence new-age cinema. Pradip Khairwar, Founder, Director & Producer – Good Idea Films, whose recent film Ayushmati Geeta Matric Pass released on OTT, is among his disciples and curated a grand, star-studded evening in honour of his mentor.

The celebration witnessed the presence of celebrated actors including Manoj Bajpayee, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Bharat Dabholkar, Rajpal Yadav, Suniel Shetty, Saurabh Shukla, Apsara Rani, Taha Shah Badussha, Isha Koppikar, Mushtaq Shaikh and Arya Babbar. The event was further elevated by acclaimed filmmakers and producers such as Madhur Bhandarkar, Nikhil Dwivedi and Anshul Garg, along with writer Mushtaq Shaikh and casting director and filmmaker Mukesh Chhabra.
Speaking on the occasion, Ram Gopal Varma said, “I never celebrate birthdays, but this is a new thing. I felt like doing something different. It’s a new era of cinema, and I believe I have changed completely along with it.”
Isha Koppikar expressed her excitement about the celebration, sharing, “I am very excited that Ramu, for the first time in his life, is celebrating his birthday. I have been associated with him for years, and he has never invited us to any party before. I am especially happy as my song Khallas, launched by him, became an unforgettable cult number in my career and earned me the ‘Khallas girl’ tag.”
She further revealed, “Ramu was the one who recognised my talent. Yes, I am doing my next project with him, but that’s a secret for now.”

Reflecting on the changing dynamics of cinema, she added, “Today, there is no clear bifurcation between roles such as hero, villain or item performer. Every character holds importance and is remembered. Audiences now consume global content across industries on one platform, and storytelling has become far more inclusive and layered.”
Concluding with a hint of what lies ahead, she said, “I want Ramu to return from Tollywood to Bollywood. I believe in surprises, so one will have to wait and watch for his next cinematic experience.”
Sharing their vision behind the celebration, Pradip Khairwar and Shefali Singh Rajput (Managing Director & Producer) stated, “Celebrating Ram Gopal Varma is about honouring a filmmaker who has consistently challenged conventions and redefined Indian cinema. This evening reflects the spirit of new-age storytelling and the evolving creative landscape we believe in.”
