A powerful new chapter unfolds as Sanjay Dutt reflects on resilience, evolution and reviving an iconic legacy for a new generation

Announcing Khalnayak Returns in a Press Conference, Sanjay Dutt revealed the film was conceived from an idea that took shape during his years in prison, inspired in part by fellow inmates who longed to see him return to the iconic role. Recalling how “about 4000 pages” of ideas written by inmates led to the seed of the project, he described the sequel as both a tribute to a defining film and a fresh narrative for a new generation.

Speaking candidly about his prison years, Dutt shared a deeply philosophical reflection: “Inside the jail — when you let go of hoping over release, the release comes without you counting days,” adding that accepting reality, rather than resisting it, became his greatest lesson in endurance.

Calling Khalnayak a landmark in his career, he stressed the new film would not rely on nostalgia alone but would be built with contemporary relevance. Reflecting on how life has transformed him since those years, he said, “Haan mein ab bahut shanth ho gaya hoon,” noting that life’s upheavals have brought maturity, calm and perspective both on and off screen. Dutt also spoke warmly of the collaboration between Three Dimensions Motion Pictures and producer Aksha Kamboj’s Aspect Entertainment, describing it as a partnership grounded in family-like trust, with a shared ambition to create cinema that connects emotionally while succeeding commercially.
