On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, Project Chetna successfully distributed 60 Smart QR “Suraksha Kavach” pendants to specially-abled children in collaboration with the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Hyderabad.

The initiative was supported through CSR contributions from Finkurve Financial Services and Augmont, and aims to enhance the safety and security of specially-abled children through technology-driven solutions. Each smart QR pendant securely stores critical information, including emergency contacts, medical details, and family information. In case of any unforeseen situation, scanning the pendant provides instant access to this information while simultaneously alerting the child’s family via email.

This intervention acts as a digital “Suraksha Kavach” (protective shield), enabling quick identification and reunification of children with their loved ones, thereby offering peace of mind to parents, caregivers, and institutions. By integrating innovation with compassion, the initiative contributes to the vision of a “Surakshit Bharat,” empowering every child, regardless of ability, with safety, dignity, and care.

Project Chetna is a social impact initiative dedicated to empowering specially-abled individuals and elderly citizens through smart QR-based solutions that enhance safety, connectivity, and independence.

Speaking on how the idea of Project Chetna happened, Akshay Ridlan, founder of projectchetna.in, says, “I was so terrified knowing that there are so many people going missing every day and because of that I thought why don’t we introduce something which is going to help people reunite them with their families. So, with this thought we initiated QR pendants for especially abled and elderly people, so that in case they go missing we can reunite them with their families”.

Apart from the recently held drive in Hyderabad, Project Chetna has also conducted similar initiatives in other major cities. Their goal is to reach 10 million people this year across India. The team at Project Chetna comprises of dedicated professionals from diverse backgrounds, including technology, law enforcement, social work, and community organizing. They are united by a shared commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals affected by the disappearance of a loved one.
