PRESIDENT MURMU HONOURS ICONS WITH PADMA AWARDS

A host of celebrated names from cinema, music, sports, and public life were honoured with Padma Awards as President Droupadi Murmu presented the second batch of 65 awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Veteran actor Mammootty received the Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, particularly the Malayalam film industry. Playback singer Alka Yagnik was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan and expressed gratitude for the recognition while reflecting on the health challenges that kept her away from the public eye for nearly two years.
Actor R. Madhavan was awarded the Padma Shri, while cricketer Rohit Sharma, who led India to the T20 World Cup title, and Indian hockey goalkeeper Savita Punia were also conferred the Padma Shri for their achievements in sports.
Former Supreme Court judge K.T. Thomas received the Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to public affairs, while Malayalam journalist P. Narayanan was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to literature and education.
The Padma Awards, among India’s highest civilian honours, recognise exceptional contributions across various fields including arts, sports, literature and education, public affairs, science, medicine, civil service, and social work.
