Those of us who grew up in the 60s-70s-80s will remember the joy of playing with sticks and stones, luxury of climbing trees and eating unwashed fruit or fearlessly collecting tiny bugs and making matchbox homes for them.
Somewhere in the last few decades, unfortunately, we became a sanitised society as gardens diminished and playgrounds were replaced by air-conditioned gaming zones.
It’s a sign of better times to come and very heartening to watch Millennials or Gen Y doing their best to limit their kids’ exposure to screen time; making the right choices as they allow their little ones to explore the outdoors, sometimes even barefoot.
What will we do if there is no TV or Wi-fi?
Be happy! Just like the kids in the images below.
The classic playground game of HOPSCOTCH provides an engaging way to spend time outdoors, limiting screen time and comes with several developmental and health benefits also:

Develop Balance and Core Strength: Hopping on a single foot and quickly switching to two feet trains the body to be stable and builds core muscle.
Improves Eye-Hand Coordination: Tossing a stone or marker into a specific square without touching the lines requires precise visual and motor control.
Boosts Cognitive Development: As players jump on the numbered grid, they
practice counting, number recognition, and spatial awareness
Rule Following: This simple game teaches kids patience, memory, and the importance of taking turns and following rules.
Resilience and Focus: When a player makes a mistake, they get corrected by their opponents, then they have to wait their turn, try again, and improve their score. This is so important today in the world of instant gratification.
Knots & Crosses (also known as Tic-Tac-Toe) looks so simple and yet it trains the brain:

Strategic Planning : It teaches you to think ahead, consider both your next move and how your opponent might respond to it
Pattern Recognition: Identify potential winning lines and block your opponent before they complete a row.
Problem Solving : By analysing the board and predicting moves, you can force a draw
Critical Thinking & Decision Making: Weigh the options quickly and plan an offensive or defensive move
