The veteran lyricist says the computer-generated clip falsely attributed to him is damaging his reputation and credibility

Veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has publicly dismissed a viral video circulating online that claims he has “turned to God”, clarifying that the clip is entirely fabricated using artificial intelligence.

Taking to his social media handle on X on Friday, Akhtar described the video as a computer-generated fake and expressed serious concern over the harm such content can cause.

“A fake video is in circulation showing my fake computer-generated picture with a topi on my head claiming that ultimately, I have turned to God. It is rubbish,” he wrote.

He further indicated that he is weighing legal options against those behind the video, as well as individuals who continue to circulate it online.

“I am seriously considering to report this to the cyber police and ultimately dragged the person responsible for this fake news and those few who forward it to the court for damaging my reputation and credibility,” Akhtar added.

The incident once again brings attention to the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to create misleading and defamatory content involving public figures. In recent months, several celebrities have found themselves targeted by similar AI-generated or morphed visuals circulating on social media.

Actors including Rashmika Mandanna, Kangana Ranaut, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar, among others, have previously been affected by such fabricated content, prompting renewed discussions around digital safety, misinformation, and the urgent need for stronger safeguards against AI-driven abuse.

As AI tools become increasingly accessible, voices across the creative and public spheres are calling for stricter regulation and accountability to protect personal reputation and public trust in the digital age.
