Now streaming on Prime Video, Zero Se Restart is more than a behind-the-scenes film—it's a stirring chronicle of creativity, chaos, and courage, tracing the making of the critically acclaimed 12th Fail

In a candid revelation to the media, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared his reflections on the newly released documentary Zero Se Restart, now streaming on Prime Video across India and over 200 countries and territories. The film offers an insider’s look into the journey of making 12th Fail, which won both hearts and headlines in 2023.

Zero Se Restart may initially seem like a behind-the-scenes documentary — and it certainly is. But when viewed, I hope a more powerful story emerges. I had little idea how to film 12th Fail when I started — and yet, here it is,” Chopra said.

Directed and edited by Jaskunwar Singh Kohli, and produced under the Vinod Chopra Films banner, the documentary pieces together over 18,000 minutes of raw footage shot over three years—shedding light on the emotional and artistic intensity of filmmaking.

“A celebration of courage embedded in all artistic processes. It's a perfect example that grit, grace and growth all come when you allow yourself to restart,” Chopra added.

The original film, 12th Fail, based on Anurag Pathak’s bestselling book, portrayed the inspiring real-life journey of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, brought to screen by Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr.

Reflecting on the documentary, Massey said the experience was deeply moving.

Zero Se Restart brought back the fear, the fire, and the faith. We shot in unpredictable locations, chasing moments with no safety net. Watching Mr. Chopra lead a young crew — armed with endless rewrites and no takers for the story at first — was truly inspiring,” he recalled. “I hope this documentary inspires others to chase their dreams.”

Kohli called the documentary a treasure trove for budding filmmakers:

“For any aspiring filmmakers out there, Zero Se Restart is a treat — a one-stop destination to learn from the hilarious and brilliant VVC himself. I'm thrilled that now, thanks to Prime Video, we can finally share it with the world.”

With raw honesty and remarkable behind-the-scenes access, Zero Se Restart doesn’t just show how a film was made — it captures the spirit of starting over, the unpredictability of the creative process, and the quiet triumph of believing in a story when no one else does.
