Here are 5 budget friendly travel tips that will not only help you from unnecessary spending but also make you explore a place much better.

1.  Choose the right transport:

Once you’ve decided your destination, the next step is the best way to reach there. It’s better to opt for road travel in cases where destinations which are close by and have a good network of roads connecting them. For international or destinations that are further away, choosing budget airlines with low fares and layovers are a better option. Another way is to break up the travel with different modes of transport like partly by car or train and partly by flight, though this might seem longer, it would be easier on the pocket.

2. Budget friendly stays:

Staying in a home stay or rental apartment or even a hostel is a cheaper way to stay rather than going for hotel that can be extremely expensive. In fact, some home stays might be in a central location offerings much better connection to local sights, tourist spots and shopping.

3.  Eat like a local:

Go for local cafes, restaurants and food trucks/carts where locals frequent and indulge local cuisine which may be cheaper than exotic dishes. Alternatively, you could buy fresh local produce from markets and cook up a quick meal to avoid expensive food bills entirely.  Also carry a lot of snacks from home for times when on the move and limited options available especially for those who are vegan or vegetarian.

4.  Walk to save:

Opting to walk to nearby places or even using a bicycle where possible is money saving and even discover less explored tourist sites. Taking public transport where possible instead or private taxis or cabs is another way to save and get around the place.

5. Shop wisely:

Lastly but most importantly shop wisely. Explore local markets for handcrafted treasures or locally made souvenirs instead of heading to large malls or departmental stores which are usually more expensive.
