The go to beauty product in summer is sunscreen. Sunscreen is a must to protect your skin from the harsh heat and UV rays from the outside but what do you do to help replenish your skin from the inside?

The answer is simply to include skin healthy foods into your diet. Eating right is an important way for your skin to stay protected and hydrated from the inside.

Here are three important things to take note of to include in your summer diet:

1.     Stay Hydrated:

Hydration and summer go hand in hand. With the blistering summer heat, it’s important to stay hydrated from within. One way to make sure that your skin stays hydrated is by eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in water content. Watermelons, Citrus Fruits, Tomatoes and Cucumbers help to keep your skin hydrated and also protect from sun damage. While drinking plenty of water is a must, quench your thirst with seasonal drinks like coconut water, sugar juice, lemonade and yogurt smoothies that also boost electrolytes, sooth and maintain the skin’s moisture balance preventing it from drying or looking dull.

2.     Antioxidants & Vitamin Boost:

Foods that are rich in Vitamin C not only are great for your skin as they boost collagen production but also for your body as they boost your immunity. Citrus fruits like oranges, lime, lemons and vegetables like bell peppers are an excellent source of Vitamin C. While antioxidant rich foods and drinks like green tea, dark chocolate, spinach and more are good for the skin as they protect it against damage from free radicals and premature skin aging. They also have anti-inflammatory properties, improve skin tone and texture.

3.     Local & Seasonal:

Fruits and vegetables that are in season during summer also happen to be beneficial for overall skin health. Season fresh Mangoes, watermelons, tomatoes and spinach are an excellent source of vitamins and antioxidants that help nourish, exfoliate and protect the skin from damage of the harsh sun. They also help aid skin renewal and help with hydration.

Lastly, no matter how hot it gets, make sure to keep your skin protected with sunscreen on the outside but also from the inside by choosing the right foods!
