The ninth edition of the annual Golf for Charity tournament, hosted by the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan, unfolded on December 7, 2025 as a quietly impactful gathering — one where sport served as a backdrop to a larger humanitarian intent. Over 120 golfers took to the course, not only for competition, but to contribute towards improving eye care services at the Eye Centre of Ramdevrao Hospital, Kukatpally.

Now an established date on Hyderabad’s social and sporting calendar, the tournament has built its reputation on consistency rather than spectacle. Participants this year reflected a mix of seasoned golfers and committed supporters, all drawn together by the cause. The funds raised through the day will be used to strengthen eye care services and equip the hospital with advanced surgical technology, enabling greater access to quality ophthalmic treatment for underserved communities.

While the mood on the course remained easy and collegial, the significance of the initiative was never lost. Vision impairment continues to affect thousands who lack the means for timely treatment, and upgrading surgical infrastructure can make a decisive difference — particularly in charitable hospitals that cater to low-income patients.

Addressing attendees, Anu Khendry, President of the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan, noted the steady support the tournament has received over the years. “This is our ninth edition, and the encouragement from golfers and sponsors has been heartening,” she said. “Their generosity allows us to direct resources towards improving eye care and providing advanced surgical equipment at Ramdevrao Hospital, where the need is both immediate and ongoing.”

She also acknowledged the contribution of sponsors whose financial support, including CSR commitments, made the initiative possible, emphasising that such partnerships help translate intent into long-term medical impact.

Beyond the day’s fairways and scorecards, the event reflected a larger continuum of community-focused work. Over the years, similar initiatives by the club have contributed to healthcare, education and essential infrastructure projects across the region — from diagnostic centres and dialysis units to clean water facilities in underserved areas.

What distinguished the 2025 edition was its understated effectiveness. There was little formality, no overt grandstanding — just a shared understanding that collective participation, when thoughtfully directed, can lead to meaningful change.

As play concluded and conversations lingered over the final holes, the outcome of the day became clear. The true success of the tournament will not be measured on the leaderboard, but in operating theatres where improved equipment restores sight and dignity — reinforcing how a game of golf, played with intention, can quietly change lives.
